Galea Tiles History
Authenticity, together with fineness of patterns, purity of edges and satin like look, are the characteristics of these entirely handmade tiles. They are composed from the finest marble powder, high quality cement, carefully chosen marble chippings and high purity aggregate used in concrete. Colouring of plain and patterned tiles result from the use of pigments inlaid in the block guaranteeing the richness of the colors forever. The resistance to wear of these tiles allows an exceptional use for several decades. Patterns vary from colored diamonds and squares to black and white Greek Friezes and from floral interweaves to intricate designs.In Malta the high quality of production is the same as that which was perfectioned at the end of the 19 th century in viviers. Tile making is believed to have begun in Malta towards the end of the 1880s. The Factory where Galea Tiles operates today has been established since 1910, while the current owners took over the operation in 1963.
Galea Tiles produce using traditional methods, and thus accepting the challenge involved in making the people aware of the re-emergence of a handcrafted product manufactured as it was many years ago, but with a wide range of architectural, coloring and decorative possibilities.
At the same time it offers the guarantee of a high quality product. The production of the tiles is made by one using the great attention with the completely traditional methods. The Traditional tile measures 20cm x 20cm, of which 25 tiles are needed to complete one square meter.
